“Music can help you draw closer to your Heavenly Father. It can be used to educate,
edify, inspire, and unite.”
~Thomas S. Monson
Platte City Stake Primary Music Policy
As stated in Handbook 2:
The Children’s Songbook and the current sharing time outline are the basic resources for music in Primary. Hymns from the hymnbook and songs from the Friend and Liahona are also appropriate. Occasionally children may sing patriotic or holiday songs that are suitable for Sunday and for the children’s ages. The use of any other music in Primary must be approved by the bishopric.
Our Stake Presidency has asked that we not add extra and unnecessary burden to our Bishops by seeking approval beyond what is already directed in the handbook; namely, the Children's Songbook, Hymnbook, current (or past) sharing time outlines and music published in the Friend or Liahona.
Occasionally we see music added to LDS Facebook or the LDS blog which includes original productions, (meaning NOT produced by the church). These resources also include music for the youth which though produced by the church, is not appropriate for Sunday Meetings. Until such a time as this music is published in the resources specifically mentioned above, please be respectful of our Stake Presidencies stance and use what has been officially approved. These resources provide hundreds of great options and we are not lacking in choice for inspired music. Thank you for all of you do to serve and inspire the children within your stewardship.
